Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics, The University of Texas at Austin’s Post

This October, a team of aerospace engineering students traveled with Spacecraft Mission and Design instructor, Adam Nokes, to the 74th International Astronautical Congress in Baku, Azerbaijan (IAC 2023). The team was selected to present at this year's IAC conference after placing among the top 6 teams worldwide in the IAC semi- finals.   At the conference, Abdulbari Agboola, Peyton Burlington and Mark Dunn presented their capstone project on space solar power as part of the International Space Solar Power Competition, which focused on the analysis of optimal orbit elements for a space-based wireless power transmitting system.   “The students gave a thorough presentation and did a wonderful job. A system like this could be realized in the not-too-distant future and the technology to do it already exists. Space-based solar power would be the ultimate eco-friendly power source,” said Nokes about the team’s presentation.   During their travels, students had the opportunity to engage with the international community, including meeting Ali AlQarni, an astronaut from Saudi Arabia who flew to the International Space Station earlier this year. They also took some time to visit The Blue Mosque in Istanbul, Türkiye.   We’re proud to see these innovative undergraduate students representing our department on an international level! 🚀 🤘   #SpacecraftMissionAndDesign #AerospaceEngineering #IAC2023 #SpaceResearch #SolarPower #TexasEngineering #WhatStartsHere Cockrell School of Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin | University of Texas Center for Space Research
