🚀 Team VENOM (Volatile Examining luNar prOspectors and Mothership) is one of two UT teams selected as a finalist in the NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration RASC-AL (Revolutionary Aerospace Systems Concepts – Academic Linkage) competition. One of NASA’s longest running student challenges, the competition calls for university teams to develop innovative concepts to improve the ability to operate on the Moon, Mars and Beyond. Students on the team worked on the project for their capstone Spacecraft Mission Design course and will travel to Cocoa Beach, Florida in June to present their proposed concepts to a panel of NASA and aerospace industry leaders. Project Overview: VENOM introduces a groundbreaking multi-rover architecture designed for lunar prospecting missions in the permanently shadowed areas of the lunar south pole. Utilizing power beaming technology for energy transmission, percussive plowing for efficient excavation, and Raman spectroscopy for on-site mineral and volatile analysis, VENOM maximizes efficiency, reduces costs and enhances safety in future lunar exploration endeavors. Team Members: Morgan Cheng, Braxton Hornbuckle, Leon Konjarevic, Katherine Mueller, Rohan Puppala, Emily Rector, Eder Sanchez Macedo, Nishant Shah, Pete Torres Congratulations, team VENOM, and good luck in Florida! 🤘 Learn more their project in this video: https://lnkd.in/gukHAsvz and read the NASA announcement: https://rascal.nianet.org/ #SpacecraftMissionDesign #SeniorCapstone #AerospaceEngineering Cockrell School of Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin | University of Texas Center for Space Research

🌍 Happy Earth Day! One of the many ways Moriba Jah works to keep our planet and its orbit safe is by keeping the conversation alive about the on-going issues with space junk. Last month, a family living in Napels, Fla. got a huge surprise when a chunk of metal - which ended up being part of a pallet of old batteries from the International Space Station - crashed through the roof of their home. Jah speaks with NPR on his work to understand and predict the behavior of human-made objects in orbit, and to ultimately make Earth and space safe and sustainable: https://lnkd.in/gCv2TAMj #EarthDay2024 #OrbitalSpaceDebris #Astrodynamics #TexasEngineering #WhatStartsHere Cockrell School of Engineering, The University of Texas at Austin | University of Texas Center for Space Research | Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences
