Does life exist on distant planets? Astronomers at The University of Texas at Austin and their global partners were awarded nearly $1.2 million by the Isaac Simon Foundation to fund their research into exploring planetary conditions. The MagNIFIES project is an instrument for the Giant Magellan Telescope under construction in the Chilean Atacama Desert. Once completed it is expected to be the world's most powerful telescope.
