All academic district meets are set up in the online entry system and academic coordinators may enter your school’s contestants. The
entry deadline is 10 days prior to your meet, or an earlier date set by your DEC. Check with your district academic meet director for more information. Details about the meet entry procedure can be found in the UIL High School Academic Coordinator’s Manual.
Copy Editing is an official contest this year. It is 15-minutes and does not conflict with the other journalism contests. Headline Writing has been shortened to 30 MINUTES this year. Students still will be asked to write six headlines.
The deadline to submit an essay for the UIL essay contests is February 20. One essay can qualify a student as a state finalist and make him or her eligible for TILF scholarships as well as win your school championship points. Essays are submitted online.
UIL State Office is currently recruiting policy debate judges to hire for the CX Debate State Meet March 18-19 (1-2-3A) and March 22-23 (4-5-6A) held at the University of Texas in Austin. If your school did not qualify a team to state but your experienced debate coach is interested in judging state, have them contact Jana Riggins, UIL Debate Director, immediately.

The UIL Young Filmmakers Festival
Over 700 entries this year! Films advancing to Semi-Finals and Nominees for the Nobelity Project Award can be found on the UIL Film Page. The UIL Young Filmmakers State Finals are March 5, 2019 at the historical Paramount Theatre in Austin.
UIL will host the 23rd Annual Capital Conference June 25-26 at the AT&T Conference Center and Hotel (UT-Austin). The conference offers a variety of sessions for high school academic coaches and coordinators including an array of sessions covering speech, theatre, robotics and A+ (grades 2-8). Registration to open March 2019.
